Jubilee MPs Attend Ruto’s Service, Ignore Uhuru

A group of Jubilee MPs attended a thanksgiving service in Nakuru County, where President William Ruto was also present.

This comes less than 24 hours after Jubilee founder Uhuru Kenyatta declared that the party is still strong and its members are united.

However, the 32 Jubilee MPs who paid a visit to Ruto at State House this week were in Nakuru for a church service on Sunday. They were led by Nominated MP Sabina Chege and EALA MP Kanini Kega. In Nakuru, Kega acknowledged that Ruto is the Head of State.

“The mere fact that we are here demonstrates that the fifth President of the Republic of Kenya is none other than William Samoei Ruto,” he declared.

Former Taveta MP Naomi Shaban, as well as party Chair Nelson Zuya and Jimmy Angwenyi, were also present. Kega stated that all 34 Jubilee members will back Ruto in his endeavors.

“We will be marching and working with you, Your Excellency, with 34 members in the National Assembly and in the Senate,” he stated.

Since some of the party’s members visited President William Ruto at State House, disputes have shaken the Jubilee party. The first visit took place last month, and the second, which took place last week, saw 32 Jubilee members visiting the State House. The following event was a committee meeting, which was held in Kisumu at the Sarova Woodlands Hotel. Participants included EALA MP Kanini Kega, Rachel Nyamai, Naomi Shaban, and Joshua Kutuny.

The National Executive Executive Committee suspended Kioni from his job in a letter to him after a meeting on Friday, citing allegations of grave wrongdoing.

Kanini Kega was appointed in his place. Kagwe Gichohi, the treasurer, and David Murathe, the vice chairman, are also suspended. Kioni argued that even though the National Executive Committee had suspended him, he was still the secretary general of Jubilee. The party has taken steps to begin leaving the Azimio Coalition. The party declared that they now want to join Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza team.
