High Court Suspends Criminal Proceedings Against Governor George Natembeya

In a significant legal development, the High Court has temporarily halted criminal proceedings against Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya. Justice Bahati Mwamuye issued the suspension following the governor’s petition challenging his prosecution.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had leveled charges against Governor Natembeya, citing alleged procurement irregularities and abuse of office. However, Natembeya contends that his prosecution involves constitutional violations, prompting him to seek judicial intervention.

The court directed that all respondents, including the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), be served with the petition, application, and accompanying orders by June 9, 2025. The case remains suspended until the petition’s determination.

This ruling marks a critical juncture in the ongoing case, as the legal battle unfolds with broader implications for governance and accountability in public office.
