Harambee Stars Shine Bright, Pocket Ksh253 Million in Historic Payout

Harambee Stars are basking in glory after receiving a record-breaking Ksh253 million in allowances and bonuses, a reward that has electrified the national football scene and lifted the spirits of millions of fans.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed confirmed that the government released Ksh21 million in allowances between July and August, covering the 2024 CHAN tournament. On top of that, President William Ruto handed the team a monumental Ksh232 million in bonuses bringing the total payout to Ksh253 million for players and technical staff.

Hussein clarified that while the government catered for 24 players during the tournament, FKF stepped in to ensure the remaining three players and support staff were also paid, ensuring that no member of the squad was left behind.

The huge payout comes even as Stars bowed out of the CHAN competition in heartbreaking fashion. A goal from Alphonce Omija in Friday’s quarterfinal clash against Madagascar was not enough to carry them through, as they fell in a tense penalty shootout. Still, their fighting spirit earned admiration at home and abroad, with fans hailing the team for showing courage and progress on the continental stage.

The FKF boss also dismissed claims of interference in team selection, stressing that head coach Benni McCarthy has full freedom to pick his squad on merit.

This windfall comes as Harambee Stars prepare for crucial fixtures, with fans rallying behind a team that has shown resilience, passion, and unity. For the players, the payout is not just financial — it is a powerful show of trust and support as Kenya dreams of returning to continental and global football glory.

The mood is celebratory, the stakes are high, and the Stars are shining brighter than ever.
