Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party to Launch at Kasarani on June 3

NAIROBI—Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s new political outfit, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), will officially launch on June 3, 2025, at the Kasarani Indoor Arena in Nairobi.

In a letter dated May 20, 2025, DCP Secretary General Hezron Obaga confirmed the booking of the venue, anticipating a turnout of over 5,000 guests, including members, supporters, and dignitaries. The event is set to run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature speeches, interactive sessions, and performances unveiling the party’s vision, manifesto, and leadership.

The venue’s management has billed the party Ksh.3.7 million for hiring the facility.

This major launch follows the party’s initial unveiling on May 15 at its Lavington headquarters, where the leadership was introduced and the party’s identity showcased. The launch, however, was marred by chaos when rowdy elements disrupted proceedings, prompting a security response.

At the Lavington event, Gachagua underscored the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership, symbolized by the logo, a hand beneath an ear, accompanied by the slogan “Skiza Wakenya” (Listen to Kenyans). “Kenyans have asked us to form a party that listens and provides real solutions,” said Gachagua.

The interim leadership includes former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala as Deputy Party Leader and David Mingati as Chairperson. Other notable officials are former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi, Cate Waruguru, Peter Mwathi, Hezron Obaga, Hannah Mutua, Andrew Kiplimo Muge, Maina Kamanda, and Alex Khamasi.

DCP promises to offer alternative leadership and tackle issues of poor governance that have long plagued the country.
