Friday, April 21, Is a Public Holiday

Interior Cabinet Secretary prof. Kithure Kindiki has declared Monday 24th April a public holiday to mark Idd-ul-Fitr.

Idd-ul-Fitr is normally celebrated by Muslim community across the globe, including Kenya, significantly marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan Mubarak which is a time of fasting, prayer and reflection.

As a result, the move made by CS Kindiki in an announcement gazetted today is that which is welcomed warmly by the Muslim community in Kenya.

Apart from honouring the day as a very important one to the Muslim community, the declaration of the holiday also demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting religious harmony and recognizing the diversity of its citizens.

It is a step towards creating an inclusive society where people of all faiths are respected and their religious traditions recognized.
