Dagorreti North Constituency Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has stated that Kenyan boarding schools should never have boarding facilities.
Elachi, adding her voice to the recent developments regarding school fires, said that the responsibility for the children lies solely with parents, and that parents should take their children home when schools close in the evening.
“No primary school should have boarding facilities. Let parents take care of their children at home. It is very sad to lose young lives in a fire tragedy because they were in an enclosed dormitory,” said Elachi.
Elachi made this statement even as stakeholders have been accused of negligence after 21 pupils died on the spot during a fire tragedy at Endarsha Hill Primary School in Kieni County last week.
So far, the Ministry of Education’s Cabinet Secretary has formed a task force to investigate the cause of the fire tragedy that claimed young lives in Nyeri.
