Lawyer Nelson Havi has thrown his weight behind former Chief Justice David Maraga, describing him as the only credible leader capable of restoring integrity and fighting corruption in Kenya. Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV’s Daybreak show, Havi said that if Kenyans want meaningful change, they must rally behind a leader with a proven record of honesty and justice. He stated that “there is no other potential candidate that has been formidable in the past about issues that affect Kenyans apart from David Maraga.”
The outspoken advocate praised Maraga’s track record in upholding the rule of law, saying his leadership would bring back public trust in government institutions. He added that the country needs leaders who can deal with corruption decisively and inspire confidence in governance.
Havi also turned his attention to ODM politics, noting that Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has demonstrated resilience within the party despite persistent internal challenges. He said Sifuna’s endurance reflected the faith Raila Odinga had in him, remarking that “the remainder of Edwin Sifuna as a youthful leader in ODM despite persistent efforts by people to kick him out is an indicator that Raila saw himself in Edwin Sifuna.”
He urged Sifuna to mourn Raila Odinga’s passing but not to shy away from assuming leadership within ODM. According to Havi, Sifuna represents the next generation of leadership that can sustain Raila’s political legacy while steering the party into a new era.
On the state of Kenyan politics, Havi criticized the instability of political alliances, likening them to “plastic paper wrappings” that shift frequently without firm ideology. He predicted a possible realignment ahead of the 2027 general election, saying he foresees “a situation where President Ruto runs for presidency in 2027 on a coalition ticket of ODM and KANU.”
His remarks have sparked conversations online, with many Kenyans weighing in on his endorsement of Maraga and his bold forecast of future political alliances.
