Vodacom prepaid customers in South Africa have reported missing data bundles following a network outage that began early in the morning. Some subscribers claimed they lost bundles worth hundreds of South African rand, with complaints emerging around 5:00 a.m., according to outage tracker Downdetector.
Customers took to social media to report missing data balances ranging from 43GB to 160GB. One subscriber reported losing 900 minutes and 74GB of data, while another said bundles worth hundreds of rand had disappeared from two phones.
The disruption also affected access to customer support, with some callers unable to reach Vodacom’s support line on 135. The company acknowledged an issue affecting certain customers and said its technical team was working to resolve it.
Contract subscribers reported that their data balances remained intact, although some experienced slower network speeds. A customer in Centurion reported having no upload connectivity, which prevented access to online services.
Another prepaid customer who purchased replacement data using airtime reported 5G speeds of between 20 and 25Mbps. The speeds were lower than the subscriber’s usual connection speeds.
However, subscribers in KwaZulu-Natal reported no disruption. Vodacom began responding to complaints on social media, apologising for the inconvenience and confirming that it was investigating the problem.
The company had not provided a timeline for resolving the issue. It had also not disclosed the number of customers affected by the outage.
