Mosiria Accuses Sakaja of Stripping Him of Duties Before Official Sacking

Nairobi County official Geoffrey Mosiria has accused Governor Johnson Sakaja of stripping him of his official responsibilities in December 2023, long before his dismissal was made official.

In a social media reaction to his sacking, Mosiria claimed that the governor removed his constitutionally assigned mandate as an accounting officer on December 28, 2023. He alleged that his responsibilities were transferred to junior officers through what he described as an unprocedural memo.

“Thank you, my boss, for making my sacking official,” Mosiria wrote, while arguing that his effective dismissal had happened earlier.

Mosiria further claimed that the county health budget under his docket was reduced from KSh1.2 billion to KSh100 million. He alleged that the reduction left him without sufficient funds to perform his duties.

He attributed the move to his refusal to participate in what he described as direct procurement arrangements favouring people close to the governor and his contractors. Mosiria said evidence was available, citing a WhatsApp conference call involving Sakaja and the governor’s Chief of Staff, Osman Khalifa, during which he claimed he was confronted.

The county official also alleged that he was later transferred to the Environment docket, where his director reported directly to the governor. According to Mosiria, the arrangement left him without meaningful responsibilities in the office.

He said he opted to take to the streets to lead operations that he believed should have been handled by junior officers, including his director, rather than remain idle in the office.

Mosiria’s statement presents his dismissal as the culmination of a dispute over his responsibilities, budget allocation and working arrangements within the Nairobi County administration. The allegations in his post were not independently verified in the information provided.
