President William Ruto has embarked on a high-stakes development tour of the Nyanza region, commissioning multi-billion-shilling infrastructure initiatives and holding broad consultative forums with local political and community leaders.
The tour kicked off in Kisumu County on Sunday, September 13, where President Ruto inspected key national government infrastructure investments. On Monday, the President commissioned the KSh 7.5 billion Lake Victoria Water and Sanitation Project, designed to expand clean water access and municipal sewerage connectivity. He also inspected ongoing works on the KSh 16.7 billion Mamboleo Junction-Miwani-Chemelil-Muhoroni-Kipsitet highway, commissioned the Kisumu West sub-county police headquarters at Otonglo, and inspected the newly completed KSh 314 million air traffic control tower at Kisumu International Airport.
“Let us move from signatures to implementation; from plans to infrastructure; from commitments to investment; and from investment to factories, exports, and jobs,” President Ruto said during his regional engagements, emphasizing that public investments are aimed at transforming local economies.
Accompanying the President are senior executive officials, including Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, and Interior Principal Secretary Dr. Raymond Omollo. Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, and Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko are hosting the delegation in their respective administrative jurisdictions.
The itinerary shifts to Siaya County on Tuesday, where President Ruto will inspect the Dhogoye Bridge project in Bondo, tour the Siaya Stadium construction site, and launch road infrastructure in Ugenya and Alego Usonga constituencies. The delegation will subsequently proceed to Migori County on Wednesday to inspect vital agricultural supply roads and electrical power substations, before concluding the itinerary in Homa Bay County on Thursday with the launch of modern Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) market facilities.
Government representatives affirmed that the ongoing development initiatives represent a total investment exceeding KSh 200 billion across the four lakefront counties. Political observers note that the visit highlights deepening administrative cooperation between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ahead of the 2027 General Election.
