African Union Calls For An Urgent Ceasefire In Northern Ethiopia.

Moussa Faki Mahamat, the chair of the African Union Commission, has demanded an immediate and unconditional cease-fire as well as the restart of aid operations in Tigray.

This comes following reports of conflict in Ethiopia’s northern regions.

The AU said that as things continue to become worse, he is closely monitoring.

In accordance with their commitment to direct negotiations to be held in South Africa, he has urged parties to recommit to conversation.

Since they were hampered by logistical issues, the negotiations have not taken place.

Additionally, Antonio Guterres, the UN secretary general, has voiced his alarm over the intensification of hostilities in northern Ethiopia, where government forces and rebel groups have been engaged in combat since November 2020.
