Millie Odhiambo has revealed ongoing plans to impeach Moses Wetang’ula from the position of the speaker.
Things have started taking a big turn in the parliament just days after a high court ruling. Back in 2022 Wetang’ula ruled out that Kenya Kwanza was the majority party in Parliament. In the ruling issued earlier this week, it was ruled that Wetang’ula lacked legal grounds to make the ruling. Azimio has now been declared the majority in Parliament going forward. In the last sitting, Junet Mohammed occupied the seat of the majority while in the National Assembly.
Odhiambo has now revealed that plans are underway to have the speaker impeached from his position. “He can be impeached. I am told there is a Member of Parliament who is willing to bring an impeachment motion. But it’s as simple as this—either let go of being the leader of Ford Kenya or remain the Speaker,” Odhiambo said.
Kitui Member of Parliament Robert Mbui added that the speaker is always biased in his decisions. “I think he is probably under pressure because he is part of Kenya Kwanza. So he is under pressure to perform for the coalition, and that is unfair. And that is one of the reasons why the court ruling stating that there is an issue with Wetang’ula being a leader of one of the parties in Kenya Kwanza makes him biased,” Mbui said.
