Airtel Money Active Merchants Surge 85.5% to Over 587,000

Airtel Money has recorded an 85.5% increase in active merchants using its platform, bringing the total to more than 587,000 across its markets. The growth was reported in the company’s financial results for the six months ended September 30, 2026.

The number of customers using the platform also increased by 18.7% to 56.7 million. Meanwhile, the total value of money sent and paid through Airtel Money across 13 African markets rose by 46.1% to $128 billion.

The growth in merchant numbers came as the company reported revenue of $830 million, representing a 34% increase from the previous year. Profit after tax rose by 21.6% to $228 million during the six-month period.

In East Africa, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Malawi and Zambia, Airtel Money generated $615 million in revenue. The business also recorded $398 million in operating earnings.

However, the company earned slightly less from each dollar of revenue and each transaction than it did a year earlier. This indicated some pressure on returns despite the growth in revenue and transaction activity.

The results are Airtel Money’s first since its listing on the London Stock Exchange on October 14, 2026. The company also declared an interim dividend of 6.4 US cents per share, payable on December 4, 2026.
