Azimio Picks Reveals Appointment of Deputy Majority Whip

The Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Coalition has selected Mark Mwenje, the Member of Parliament for Embakasi West, as the new Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly. Mwenje will be taking over the position previously held by Sabina Chege, who was removed due to her allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza government. National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi made the announcement at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Foundation, expressing confidence in Mwenje’s capabilities.

Describing Mwenje as a dedicated, consistent, energetic, and youthful advocate who has demonstrated a commitment to representing the people and the party, Wandayi believes that he is well-suited for the role. However, Chege’s dismissal is pending approval from Speaker Moses Wetangula, who has refused to endorse her removal, urging the coalition to resolve internal issues first.

Wetangula granted the Azimio coalition a 30-day period to find a replacement for Chege after they initially failed to name one. He emphasized that the communication received regarding Chege’s replacement did not comply with the requirements of the National Assembly standing orders. As a result, he directed the minority party to submit appropriate communication within the given timeframe.
