Mike Sonko Offers Help To The Stranded Pwani University Students

Former Nairobi governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, has offered help to Pwani University students who were allegedly stranded at Nairobi Standard Gauge Railways (SGR) terminus Waiting Bay after they missed the train.

The students who were among the victims of the accident that happened on Thursday around Kayole, Naivasha area, were stranded at the SGR where one of the blogger shared the information online.

After the information reached Sonko, he shared a screenshot of the stranded students on his Twitter account where he gave out his number for the said students to reach out to him for help.

“Is this true what I’m seeing online about Pwani University students being stranded somewhere in Nairobi and sleeping on the cold floor? Hebu chukueni any means ubber/ bodaboda mukuje niwapate means ya kufika home kila mtu. 0722886600,” Sonko tweeted.

The students are among the survivors of the accident that claimed 17 persons which included eight students and three staffs.

The accident occured due to brake failure of the University bus which was headed for games where it crashed with a matatu before overturning.

The driver had learnt about the brakes malfunction where he had alerted the students to tighten their safety belts.

It didn’t take long before the driver failed to control the bus leading to the heartbreaking accident.

“The driver informed us to tighten the safety belts after realizing the brakes had failed. He tried all he could but it did not work,” one student said.

On Saturday, Pwani University announced its two weeks closure which will give the institution time to mourn the loss of the people who died in the tragic accident.
