Former Miss England Returns To Kenya After 13 Years, Narrates Racism Experience

The Kenyan- born former miss England,Rehema Muthamia has shared moments of fun in some of the iconic points of Nairobi like Nairobi National Park, the Giraffe Center and the Bomas of Kenya in company of her mother Patricia Karimi, revealing that the 26-year-old is in Kenya.

Born in London by Kenyan patents,Rehema spent part of her childhood in Kenya and later went back to London as a teenager. She says that being Miss England has been an experience she never thought she would ever get an opportunity hold.

“It has been a journey, it’s an experience I never thought I would have had, I am on a world platform and I have had amazing experiences,” she said.

She was voted to represent England at the Miss World competition that was held in San Juan, Puerto Rico in March 2022 and is expected to hand the Miss England crown to the new holder of the title in October 17.Winning the Miss England title came with a £2, 000 (Sh266,000) cash award as well as fees for different appearances Rehema makes in her capacity as Miss England.

Despite holding such a precious title,Rehema says that she received a significant amount of racist remarks concerning her victory as Miss England.

“I am a black Miss England, when you think of Miss England, you don’t think of a black woman, so when I won there were a lot of people that were upset. But as a minority woman in a Western country, you have to understand that you will have to experience racism and unfortunately you get used to it, you just have to understand that you are better than that and that it is coming from a point of ignorance,” she said.
