Wetang’ula Arrives in Naivasha to Chair 2026 National Assembly Leadership Retreat

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula has arrived in Naivasha to preside over the 2026 National Assembly Leadership Retreat, bringing together lawmakers and parliamentary leadership for strategic deliberations ahead of the Fifth Session of Parliament.

The high-level retreat, attended by Members of the National Assembly, House leadership and committee chairpersons, is aimed at reviewing the performance of the House and setting legislative priorities for the remainder of the parliamentary term.

It also provides a platform for reflection on key national issues and institutional preparedness as the country moves closer to the 2027 General Election.Speaking during the opening of the retreat, Speaker Wetang’ula is expected to emphasize the need for unity, effective leadership and accountability in Parliament.

The forum will focus on strengthening legislative oversight, improving service delivery, and ensuring the National Assembly leaves behind a strong institutional legacy.Key issues on the agenda include the progress of major government reforms, the implementation of education and health sector policies, economic performance, and electoral preparedness.

Lawmakers will also engage with various stakeholders to assess challenges facing Parliament and explore ways to enhance efficiency in law-making and representation.The retreat comes at a critical time as the National Assembly prepares to handle crucial legislation and oversight responsibilities in the final phase of its term.

Leaders say the discussions in Naivasha will help align parliamentary work with national development priorities and public expectations.The outcomes of the retreat are expected to shape the House’s legislative agenda and guide its operations in the coming months.
