At Kianginda village in Nyamira, a 54-year-old woman’s body that had been missing for four days was discovered in a marshy stream.
It was discovered that vegetable vendor Hebisiba Kerubo Oera drowned in a marshy stream after leaving home on Tuesday night with some veggies to sell but failing to return.
The police report states that it rained a lot that day, and it is believed that she fell from a homemade bridge and drowned.
Before her body was found at the spot on Thursday morning, family members searched the area on Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, according to the article.
“There were no physical wounds on the body.”
The body was brought to the mortuary at Our Lady of Mercy Hospital while police started their inquiries into the event.
As the area is currently experiencing heavy rains, authorities have asked inhabitants to exercise caution as they carry on with their daily activities in order to prevent further tragedies.
Bigege assistant chief Shem Ogao said, “There is a need for all of us to be careful because we are aware that our region is currently experiencing heavy rains that may cause a lot of calamities if we are not careful.”
“Especially during this rainy season, let’s avoid crossing rivers and going to swampy areas.”
