Ugandan athlete Rebecca Cheptegei, who was in critical condition in a hospital in Nairobi, has succumbed to burn injuries sustained after allegedly being set on fire by her boyfriend.
Cheptegei, who competed in the women’s 10,000m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics, was airlifted to Nairobi yesterday from Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital, where she was receiving treatment.
She was allegedly attacked in Trans Nzoia County, where she had been training by her boyfriend.
The parents of Cheptegei, a resident of Cheminy in Uganda, had bought land in Trans Nzoia and built a house where she had been staying during her training.
