Twelve people have tragically lost their lives following two separate road accidents in Limuru, Kiambu County, within a span of less than 24 hours.
The latest incident occurred on Friday morning, when a 14-seater matatu lost control and veered off the Nairobi-Nakuru highway at the Kamandura junction. The vehicle, which was en route from Nairobi to Kijabe town, plunged into a steep slope, rolling multiple times. Seven people died as a result of the crash—five died on the spot, while two others succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment. Four survivors, all in critical condition, are currently undergoing treatment at Tigoni Hospital.
Limuru OCPD Mary Gachie confirmed the incident, noting that the matatu belonged to Kijabeline Sacco. The accident took place around 8:00 a.m., approximately one kilometre from the scene of another fatal crash that occurred on Thursday evening. In the previous accident, a private vehicle suffered a tyre burst, causing it to lose control. The crash claimed the lives of three people instantly, and two more later died while receiving medical care.
The wreckage from both accidents has been transported to Tigoni Police Station for further investigation. Authorities are urging motorists to exercise caution, particularly in high-risk areas like Kamandura junction, as they continue to probe the circumstances surrounding these devastating crashes.
