TSC Announces 24,000 Internship Vacancies for Junior School Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 24,000 internship vacancies for junior school teachers as part of efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

In a notice posted on its official website (www.tsc.go.ke) in August 2025, TSC invited qualified candidates to submit applications online under the “Careers” tab or through teachersonline.tsc.go.ke by midnight, September 9, 2025.

According to the Commission, applicants must be Kenyan citizens and hold at least a diploma in education with a minimum mean grade of C+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE), including C+ in two teaching subjects. They must also be registered teachers with TSC.

The internship programme will run for 12 months, during which successful candidates will be deployed to junior schools across the country. Selected interns will be expected to teach various learning areas under CBC and may be posted either within the sub-county where they are interviewed or to other parts of the county with available vacancies.

Interns will receive a monthly stipend of Kshs 20,000, subject to statutory deductions. TSC clarified that the engagement is not salaried employment but is designed to provide mentorship, coaching, and practical teaching experience to unemployed teachers.

Applicants are required to upload relevant documents, including their Teacher Registration Certificate, a copy of their national ID or passport, two passport-size photographs, a Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) PIN, and, where applicable, a National Council for Persons with Disability (NCPWD) card.

The Commission stressed that the recruitment process is free of charge and urged applicants to be vigilant against fraudsters who may attempt to extort money by promising to secure positions. Any suspicious activity should be reported to TSC through its official contacts — including the Director of Staffing (0202892193), Deputy Director of Staffing (0202892131), or via email at dirstaffing@tsc.go.ke. Such cases should also be reported to the nearest police station.

TSC reiterated that the internship programme forms part of its wider strategy to enhance the rollout of CBC while equipping young teachers with critical hands-on classroom experience.

Applicants can access full details on requirements, county and sub-county vacancies, and application guidelines by visiting the Commission’s website at www.tsc.go.ke.
