On Tuesday morning, a tragic incident occurred on the Marsabit-Isiolo highway in Kenya, resulting in the deaths of at least four Kenya Defence Forces soldiers. The soldiers were traveling in a Land Cruiser that overturned in the Karare area, leading to the fatal accident. Six other individuals managed to escape with injuries, and they were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Reports indicate that the injured victims were in a serious condition.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation by the police. However, preliminary information suggests that the driver of the vehicle lost control, causing it to roll off the road. Three soldiers lost their lives on the spot, while the fourth victim succumbed to injuries at Marsabit hospital, where the injured individuals were transported. Among the six hospitalized, three were reported to be in critical condition, and arrangements were being made to transfer them to Nairobi for advanced medical care.
This unfortunate incident adds to the growing number of fatal accidents in Kenya. According to the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), between January 1 and May 18, a staggering 1,679 people lost their lives in road accidents across the country. Additionally, 3,620 individuals suffered serious injuries during the same period, while 2,690 sustained minor injuries.
The rising number of road accidents is a matter of concern, and efforts need to be made to improve road safety and prevent such tragic incidents. The authorities, including the police and relevant agencies, are actively investigating the accident to determine the exact circumstances that led to the vehicle rollover.
