The family of slain blogger Albert Ojwang is grappling with a fresh misfortune after discovering that a large portion of donations meant to support them has vanished in a suspected scam.
The funds were raised after renowned comedian Eric Omondi made an emotional appeal on social media, sharing the M-Pesa number of Ojwang’s father, Meshack Opiyo. The appeal led to a flood of donations from well-wishers eager to help the grieving family.
However, the joy of receiving support turned into despair when Opiyo lost his national ID at the City Mortuary in Nairobi. According to family spokesperson Kenneth Ouma, who revealed the ordeal during an appearance on the Obinna Show, the lost ID became the key to a devastating scam.
Ouma disclosed that unknown individuals allegedly used the stolen ID to swap Opiyo’s SIM card, gaining access to his M-Pesa accounts. As a result, the perpetrators siphoned off a significant amount of the donated funds, leaving the family in shock and despair.
The incident has been reported to the authorities, and investigations are currently underway. Meanwhile, the family continues to mourn their loss while appealing for justice and assistance in recovering the stolen funds.
