Speaker Wetangula Urges Kenyans to Stop Speculating on Injendi

National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has cautioned Kenyans against speculating about the health of Malava MP Malulu Injendi, who remains hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Speaking during the ongoing National Assembly retreat in Naivasha, Wetangula also criticized lawmakers spreading unverified information regarding Injendi’s condition. He assured the public that the MP is recuperating and urged restraint from further speculation.

“The Honorable Member is recovering well, and there is no need for baseless rumors. Let us respect his privacy and allow him to heal,” Wetangula stated.

The Speaker’s update, required under Standing Orders, was eagerly anticipated. According to the rules, MPs may be granted medical leave, which is recorded and reported to relevant committees.

Injendi has been hospitalized for the past two weeks, sparking widespread speculation on social media. He was reportedly admitted on January 21 due to health complications.

Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, who visited the MP in a Nairobi hospital last week, also reassured the public about Injendi’s recovery. Speaking on behalf of the family, Barasa said, “Doctors are doing their best, and we are impressed with the treatment. Let us continue praying for his recovery.”

Malulu Injendi, elected under the Amani National Congress (now part of the United Democratic Alliance), has represented Malava Constituency since his election.

The Speaker’s remarks echo calls for sensitivity and responsible communication regarding the MP’s health. The public and leaders alike have been urged to await official updates and avoid contributing to misinformation.
