SANY Unveils Africa’s Largest Solar-Storage-Diesel Microgrid

SANY Silicon Energy has launched Africa’s largest mining-focused microgrid power project in Zambia, featuring a 13 MWp solar photovoltaic system combined with a 39 MWh battery storage system and
diesel backup generator.

The Ruida Mining Microgrid Power Project demonstrates SANY’s efficiency by completing implementation within four months from PPA signing to commissioning, despite challenging local conditions, including difficult terrain and
infrastructure limitations.

The project is a significant step forward in sustainable mining operations in Africa, combining solar, storage, and diesel technologies to ensure dependable power supply while reducing reliance on traditional energy sources like diesel.

This initiative, dubbed “SANY Speed, lays the groundwork for future green energy projects in Africa and demonstrates Chinese innovation in the global energy transition sector.

The rapid deployment and hybrid energy design demonstrate the growing viability of integrating renewables into high-demand, off-grid environments, emphasizing the growing importance of private innovation in addressing Africa’s infrastructure deficits.

It also aligns with the mining industry’s growing emphasis on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) considerations, which is being driven by investor pressure and consumer demand for responsibly sourced minerals.
