Safaricom is rolling out new benefits for its customers. The telecommunications giant has reduced selected M-PESA charges while increasing mobile data allocations and fibre internet speeds under its Pata More programme.
The initiative is designed to encourage greater use of Safaricom’s existing services by offering more value across mobile money, data and home internet products. Beginning August 7, the fee-free threshold for Lipa na M-PESA Buy Goods transactions will increase from KES 200 to KES 500, while businesses transferring money from Buy Goods tills to M-PESA wallets or PayBill accounts will pay nearly half the previous charges.
The company has also raised the free transaction limit for Pochi la Biashara from KES 100 to KES 200 and introduced a temporary cap of KES 50 on charges for larger Pochi transactions over the next 90 days. Safaricom says the changes are intended to make small digital payments more affordable for both consumers and merchants, while stimulating higher transaction volumes.
The move comes as M-PESA continues to dominate Kenya’s mobile money market, holding an 89.1 percent share as of March 2026. During the year ended March 2026, M-PESA Kadogo processed 17.1 billion transactions, accounting for 58 percent of all platform activity. M-PESA generated KES 182 billion in revenue and contributed 45 percent of Safaricom Kenya’s service revenue.
Beyond financial services, Safaricom has expanded the value of several popular data bundles without increasing prices. The KES 20 daily package has been increased from 150MB to 250MB, the KES 99 bundle from 1GB to 1.5GB, while the KES 1,000 monthly package has more than doubled from 10GB to 21.5GB.
The company has also enhanced fibre internet offerings, with speeds increasing by up to 2.5 times. Selected smartphones will now come with connectivity and insurance benefits, while the My OneApp platform continues to integrate M-PESA, mobile, fibre and customer support services as Safaricom focuses on deepening usage within its digital ecosystem.
