Raila Criticizes Ruto’s Plan to Form Judicial Tribunal To Investigate Shakahola Incident

As Kenyans joined the entire globe into Labor day celebrations of May 1 2023, Ruto-Raila continued to exchange words as the rift between the two leaders shows no sign to narrow, on a daily basis despite hinting to have a bipartisan dialogue.

Few hours after the Head of State had addressed the labourers at Uhuru Gardens, In Nairobi, Raila Odinga frisked into Ruto’s speech only to come and criticize him over plans to form a judicial tribunal to investigate the Shakahola massacre that has left nationwide shock.

According to the opposition, president Ruto has no mandate under the new constitution, to form judicial tribunal insisting that only parliament holds the power to perform the task, with the advice of the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

With intensive reference to the constitution, Raila openly criticized Ruto daring him never to infringe into the mandates that are beyond his powers.

Only parliament can establish a subordinate court or a tribunal through an act of parliament. Only parliament can determine the jurisdiction of a court or independent tribunal,” said Raila.

The opposition leader, also maintained that their planned mass protests shall commence on May 2, without turning back irrespective of the hard rocks they’ll meet along their way.
