Police have arrested Caroline Wanjiku, a 25-year-old woman, while attempting to traffic 1.3 kilos of cocaine to India via the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
Her travel plans to fly out hit turbulence when sharp-sighted detectives spotted her routine inspection. A quick check on her luggage led to the discovery of two suspicious smaller bags tucked inside, containing white powdery substance neatly packed and wrapped in yellow cellotape.
The substance was then subjected to a spot test, with results confirming that it was cocaine; weighing 1.3 kilograms worth about Sh7 million.
According to the police, Caroline had learn the hard way that drug trafficking of illicit drugs is a fast track to jail time, not a holiday in the sun.
Detectives have increased surveillance at the airport and other ports to tame cases of trafficking, following increasing concerns the routes are being used for the business.
