The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has vowed to hold the Kenya Kwanza government accountable in 2025, promising to champion social justice and unity. In a New Year’s statement on December 31, 2024, ODM Executive Director Oduor Ong’wen reflected on the party’s resilience amid challenges and breakthroughs over the past year.
“As we look to 2025, we call upon all Kenyans to embrace hope and unity,” Ong’wen stated. “ODM pledges to continue holding the government accountable while offering pragmatic solutions to issues affecting our people.”
Despite integrating with President William Ruto’s administration, ODM assured its supporters of an unwavering commitment to democracy and inclusivity. Acting ODM leader and Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o emphasized the party’s legacy of fighting for justice, electoral reforms, and devolution.
“This year has been one of resilience, growth, and renewed determination,” the statement read. “We remain steadfast in advocating for policies that uplift all Kenyans, building a better, equitable Kenya.”
Acknowledging national challenges, including rising living costs, unemployment, and inequality, ODM promised to prioritize better governance and improved access to livelihoods, healthcare, and education.
In 2024, ODM experienced political shifts as five of its leaders joined Ruto’s cabinet. Former Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi was appointed Energy CS, with Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Askul Moe taking other critical dockets.
The year also saw public discontent over police brutality, sparking protests in June. Despite setbacks, ODM underscored its resilience and commitment to the nation.
“Our vision for a united, prosperous, and equitable Kenya remains unwavering,” the party affirmed.
