The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has lashed out at the Standard Newspaper, accusing it of perpetuating a campaign of misinformation against the party and its leader, Raila Odinga.
In a press release signed by Secretary-General Senator Edwin Sifuna, the party expressed deep disappointment with a headline in the day’s edition of the Standard that labeled Odinga a “betrayer of the Gen Z.” The statement condemned the headline as misleading and part of a broader effort to undermine the party’s reputation.
“This deliberate falsehood is just the latest in a series of sustained propaganda pieces aimed at coercing political leaders to align with the interests of the media house’s ownership,” read the statement.
The ODM Party reaffirmed its commitment to promoting peace and development, emphasizing that its engagements with national policies are independent and devoid of political alignment with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
The party urged media organizations to uphold ethical standards in reporting and avoid the pitfalls of biased and agenda-driven journalism.
This rebuke adds to the growing tensions between political entities and media houses, as questions about press neutrality and accountability take center stage in the nation’s public discourse.
Standard Media Group is yet to respond to ODM’s accusations.
