The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has endorsed three Cabinet nominees, paving the way for their potential inclusion in President William Ruto’s Cabinet. William Kabogo has been approved to lead the ICT Ministry, Mutahi Kagwe to head the Agriculture docket, and former Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui to oversee the Ministry of Investment and Trade.
The committee’s approval now moves to Parliament for debate and a final resolution before the names are presented to President Ruto for formal appointment.
Currently, the ICT Ministry is under the acting leadership of Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, while the Agriculture docket is being temporarily managed by Environment CS Aden Duale. Salim Mvurya, the CS for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, is acting as Trade CS.
These nominations follow a major reshuffle announced by President Ruto on December 19, 2024. The changes included new appointments to ministerial positions, state corporations, and foreign missions.
In its report, the 20-member committee highlighted the nominees’ expertise and preparedness for their roles. The report praised their understanding of topical, administrative, and technical issues, as well as their academic credentials and professional experience, deeming them fit for the appointments.
If Parliament approves the nominees, they will join President Ruto’s team to advance key government priorities in ICT, agriculture, and trade.
