The National Assembly has approved the request to extend the period of appointing new Independent and Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) officials, presented before it by the Selection Committee. The National Assembly granted a 2-week intension from the initial set deadline for the exercise, April 28, 2025.
While urging Kenyans to have faith in the manner in which the appointment of the new IEBC officials is being conducted, the National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed endorsed the motion expressing belief that the committee will fulfill its mandate diligently.
“Let us have faith in processes which have been initiated in good faith. This process began all the way from NADCO. Before that, there was a panel that sat and used public resources (Ksh.131 million) at the county or through Parliament…if we did not have faith in that one, we don’t have faith in this one, we can only have faith in God then!” Junet noted.
After giving 14-more days for the selection Committee chaired by Nelson Makanda, the National Assembly has advised the committee to carry out its duty effectively to ensure Kenya finds abled electoral body.
