Narok–Mai Mahiu Accident Claims Two, Officer Dead

Narok – A senior police officer was among two people who lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Saturday evening at the Maduro area along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Road.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when a long-distance trailer, believed to have suffered brake failure, veered out of control and rammed into two private vehicles: a Toyota Prado TX and a Toyota G-Touring. The crash, which happened late in the evening, saw the Prado collide head-on with the trailer, killing Chief Inspector George Rotich Kipchumba, a senior traffic officer based in Narok.

First responders, including members of Sikika Road Safety, were quick to alert emergency teams and assist in rushing the injured to nearby hospitals. However, concerns were raised about the delayed emergency response due to the accident’s location, far from immediate medical services.

The force of the impact left the Toyota Prado severely damaged, with images from the scene showing the vehicle shoved off the road and its passenger side completely crushed. The crash caused a significant traffic snarl-up, as motorists stopped to aid the injured.

Sikika confirmed that after raising the alert, emergency services from the Narok County Government arrived to assist.

This stretch of the Narok–Mai Mahiu Road has become a deadly black spot, with repeated accidents in recent years. In a similar tragedy on December 23, 2024, eight people died in two separate collisions at the SGR Section 5 near Duka Moja, involving trailers, private vehicles, and a motorcycle.

In light of these ongoing incidents, road safety advocates are calling for stricter enforcement of vehicle inspections and improved emergency response infrastructure along the Narok–Mai Mahiu corridor.
