Nandi County is in mourning following the sudden death of Julius Kipruto Keter, the Member of County Assembly (MCA) for Chemundu/Kapngetuny Ward and Majority Whip in the County Assembly.
Keter passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at a hospital in Eldoret after a short illness. His death was confirmed by Nandi County Assembly Speaker Philemon Cheruiyot Melly, who described Keter as a dedicated leader and servant of the people.
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the untimely passing of Hon. Julius Kipruto Keter. On behalf of the County Assembly, I extend heartfelt condolences to his family, the people of Chemundu/Kapngetuny, and all Nandi residents,” Speaker Melly said in an official statement.
Keter was elected in 2022 after defeating Robert Kipchirchir Kirwa and had quickly risen to become a key figure in the County Assembly as Majority Whip. His tenure was marked by strong advocacy for development and unwavering commitment to his constituents.
Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei and Nandi Governor Stephen Sang also expressed their condolences. Koskei praised Keter’s commitment to service, while Governor Sang described him as a humble and thoughtful leader.
“Hon. Kipruto was more than a colleague; he was a friend and a true servant of the people. His humility, dedication, and strong voice in the Assembly will be dearly missed,” Sang stated in his tribute shared on X.
The late Keter is remembered for his tireless work and genuine love for the community. His passing leaves a significant gap in Nandi County’s leadership.
