Naivas Apologizes to Customers Amid Hacking Claims

Kenyan supermarket chain, Naivas, shortly suffered from issues of cyber security, falling victim of ransomware attack by unknown online criminal organization. The attack consequently tampered with the normal operation of the supermarket as it compromised with some of the data from the company.

However, Naivas team responded so quickly, as per the notice shared by them. The company claimed it had contained the attack and that its systems are now secure and fully operational.

Based on the notice, Naivas engaged CrowdStrike, a cyber-security firm, to ensure all their data is aligned and integrity of its systems is secured.

As an aftermath of the hacking, Naivas also revealed that it’s closely engaging law enforcement agencies within the country to investigate the attack so the perpetrators can be arraigned.

Naivas has also informed the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in Kenya of the incident, reassuring clients that it does not hold any credit or debit card information on its systems, and that such payment information is handled securely and protected through Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption.

The company on the other hand, has sent endless apologies to its clients urging them to beware of any phishing attempts by phone, SMS, or email as well as ensuring there’s absolute safety in regards to their personal passwords.
