NAIROBI – In a resounding address on International Women’s Day 2025, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi called for swift, decisive action to advance the women’s agenda in Kenya and across the globe. Speaking at a commemoration event, Mudavadi emphasized the necessity of confronting longstanding gender inequalities and ensuring that women remain central to socio-economic development and national progress.
“March 8 is a significant day for all women and girls worldwide,” he declared. “It is a moment to celebrate their achievements and progress while reflecting on the challenges they face.” Mudavadi urged citizens to honor the women in their lives—mothers, wives, sisters, and daughters—by recognizing their contributions and empowering them to shape a better future.
Highlighting the critical intersection of gender, peace, and security, the Prime CS stressed that women play a pivotal role in conflict resolution and peacebuilding. He noted that, in times of crisis, women often bear the brunt of conflict-related hardships and must therefore be given a central role in peace processes. “Their voices should be central in resolving conflicts and nurturing harmonious societies,” he said.
Mudavadi also addressed the alarming rise in gender-based violence (GBV), calling for robust national strategies and stronger accountability measures against perpetrators. He urged the private sector, civil society organizations, and development partners to build on existing legislative frameworks to dismantle systemic barriers and biases that hinder women’s full participation in all spheres of life.
Emphasizing the global theme “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” Mudavadi’s address was a rallying cry for collective action. He urged all stakeholders to unite in forging a future free from discrimination and inequality, empowering the next generation to lead with confidence and resilience. International Women’s Day remains a pivotal moment for reflecting on achievements and renewing commitment to gender justice and transformation.
