Nairobi, Kenya, 22 November 2024 – Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has donated over KES 5.9 million to three organizations supporting education, digital learning, and social welfare, impacting more than 31,400 students and 688 teachers across 151 schools.
The beneficiaries include the Roots Institute Centre in Mathare, Kangemi Resource Centre, and Kenya Connect, receiving KES 4 million, KES 1.2 million, and KES 672,000 respectively. The funds will be used to enhance infrastructure and learning resources.
Roots Institute Centre will construct a modern kitchen to provide meals for 700 students, while Kangemi Resource Centre will expand its computer facilities to enhance e-learning for 12,700 children, 88 teachers, and 88 schools. Kenya Connect will use its funds to equip its library with books and learning resources for 18,000 students and 600 teachers in 63 schools.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Christophe Orcet, Regional Director of East Africa at Majid Al Futtaim Retail, said: “Our commitment to empowering communities and driving positive social change is at the heart of these contributions. We are proud to support initiatives that promote sustainable development and education.”
The event was attended by representatives from the organizations, including Constance Fromont from Roots Institute Centre and James Musyoka, Co-Founder of Kenya Connect. Fromont expressed gratitude, noting the funds would help rebuild their demolished kitchen, ensuring uninterrupted learning.
Additionally, Carrefour Kenya sponsored the 21st Standard Chartered Marathon with KES 750,000. The proceeds will benefit Future Makers, a program addressing social and economic inequality.
