KURA Moves Fast to Prepare Talanta Area for AFCON 2027

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has taken steps to speed up road and pedestrian works around Talanta Sports City Stadium ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

KURA has selected three contractors to deliver Sh3.9 billion worth of walkways, roads and footbridges in the Ngong Road and Southern Bypass area. The aim is to fix long-standing traffic and safety problems and ensure smooth movement during major matches.

The authority has set a 12-month construction period, followed by a one-year defects liability period. Key works include new walkways on both sides of Ngong Road, road links to Cemetery Road, and pedestrian bridges at busy crossing points.

To meet tight deadlines, KURA used a special procurement method that allows faster contractor selection. This shows the agency’s push to deliver projects on time, though it also means close monitoring will be needed to ensure quality and value for money.

By moving quickly, KURA is positioning itself to deliver safer roads and better access not just for football fans, but for residents and road users who rely on the area every day.
