Kisii Governor Arati Taps Elijah Obebo as Deputy Governor

Kisii Governor Simba Arati has swiftly acted to fill the void left by the removal of Robert Monda from the position of Deputy Governor. In a decisive move, Arati has nominated Elijah Obebo to take on the role of Deputy Governor pending approval by the Kisii County Assembly.

The announcement was made by Kisii County Assembly Speaker Philip Nyanumba on Wednesday, marking a significant development in the county’s political landscape. Obebo, who previously served as the public service board chair in the county, has been selected by Governor Arati to assume the responsibilities of the deputy governor’s office.

The appointment of Obebo comes in the wake of Monda’s impeachment by the Senate on grounds of gross misconduct and corruption. The Kisii County Assembly had earlier endorsed Monda’s removal from office, paving the way for the Senate’s decision.

Following thorough deliberations, the Senate found the former Nyaribari Chache MP guilty of all charges brought against him. Monda’s impeachment stirred controversy, with allegations of a witch-hunt from Arati’s camp surfacing.

In a bid to challenge his removal from office, Monda has taken legal action, seeking to overturn the impeachment. He vehemently contends that the process was politically motivated and orchestrated by Governor Arati’s supporters.

Monda had garnered support from influential figures such as National Assembly Chief Whip and South Mugirango MP Silvanus Osoro, as well as Kisii County Senator Richard Onyonka. Despite their efforts, Monda was unable to retain his position as Deputy Governor.

The swift nomination of Elijah Obebo by Governor Arati underscores the need for continuity and effective governance in Kisii County. Obebo’s extensive experience in public service, coupled with his leadership acumen, positions him as a suitable candidate to fill the vacant deputy governor’s role.

As the nomination awaits approval by the Kisii County Assembly, all eyes are on the legislative body to assess the suitability of Obebo for the position. His confirmation would mark a new chapter in the governance of Kisii County, potentially heralding a period of stability and progress under the leadership of Governor Simba Arati.

The appointment of Obebo comes at a crucial juncture for Kisii County, amidst ongoing efforts to address various challenges and steer the region towards development and prosperity. With the support of the county assembly and the commitment of its leadership, Kisii County is poised to overcome obstacles and chart a path towards a brighter future.
