Kenya Seeks Port-Development Agreement With Indonesia

State port operators from Kenya and Indonesia have agreed to advance trade between the two countries.

Acting Managing Director of Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), John Mwangemi, stated that the agreement with Indonesia’s State-owned port operator, Pelindo, was a component of the two nations’ attempts to increase commerce. We are quite conscious of the significance of Indonesia as an industrial and export country in the Asian grid, so this is a terrific opportunity for us to discuss and see how we can work together, he said.

Cooperation with the port operator in Indonesia, according to Mr. Mwangemi, is a fantastic way to gain access to the wealthy Far East market.

He explained to the team, which included Dr. Mohamad Saripudin, the ambassador of Indonesia to Kenya, that the alliances will enable KPA to expand its operations at the Port of Lamu. The principal port and terminal operator in Indonesia seeks to forge tight bilateral ties with KPA, according to Pelindo President Director Arif Suhartono

In 10 provinces of Indonesia, Pelindo offers port and harbor services. Between 2019 and 2020, Indonesia’s exports to Kenya increased in value from $2.6 billion (Sh325 billion) to $3.8 billion (Sh475 billion), while Kenyan exports to Indonesia increased in value from $25.2 million (Sh315 million) to $26.7 million (Sh334 million).
