Kenya Power has confirmed the death of one of its staff members, Mr Shadrack Makembo, who was attacked while on duty in the Checheles area near Isiolo Town. In a statement dated April 10, 2026, the company said it deeply regrets to announce the passing of one of our staff member following the incident.
The company stated that Mr Makembo was attacked on Thursday while carrying out his duties.
“Despite receiving emergency treatment at the incident area and later being airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment,” the statement read, indicating that he later died from his injuries.
Kenya Power expressed sympathy to those affected, including extending its deepest condolences to Mr Makembo’s family, friends and colleagues. The company further affirmed that it will continue to support them during this period.
According to the statement, preliminary findings suggest that the incident may be linked to suspected fraudulent electricity consumption at the premises where the incident occurred. The company strongly condemned the act, stating that it’s working closely with the investigating authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice. It further noted that the suspect, identified as Sheikh Mayo, “remains at large,” with efforts ongoing to apprehend him.
“Some of our employees have previously been attacked while carrying out their duties,” the company recalled, emphasizing that such acts are unacceptable, reiterating its commitment to staff safety, noting that it will continue to strengthen measures to protect its workforce while serving communities across the country.
