Naivasha – The National Police Service (NPS) has heightened security ahead of the highly anticipated WRC Safari Rally 2025, which kicks off today and runs until March 23 in Naivasha.
In a statement released on Wednesday, March 19, the NPS assured rally enthusiasts of a smooth and safe event while cautioning against potential dangers. Police have particularly warned bus and lorry drivers against parking along the Naivasha–Nakuru highway, which could cause traffic obstructions.
The NPS is working closely with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to enforce road safety rules. Authorities have also urged motorists and pedestrians to remain cautious, especially due to the ongoing heavy rains, which pose risks of accidents.
Attendees must comply with instructions from the police and event organizers, including using alternative routes and adjusting travel schedules. With large crowds expected, security agencies remain alert to potential criminal activities and have provided hotlines for the public to report any incidents.
The WRC Safari Rally is a major event for Kenya, attracting both local and international spectators. Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) CEO June Chepkemei emphasized its significance in promoting the country’s tourism sector globally.
This year’s edition is expected to draw over 30,000 motorsport fans, including visitors from Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and Ethiopia. Early reports indicate that tourists began arriving in Kenya as early as Wednesday in organized groups.
With high stakes for tourism and the economy, the NPS is under pressure to ensure a secure and incident-free rally, reinforcing Kenya’s reputation as a top motorsport destination.
