Kenya Airways flights were disrupted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after aviation workers began a strike over pay and employment terms.
The strike, organised by the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU), slowed airport operations and led to delays in both departing and arriving flights. Many passengers were left waiting at the airport as schedules changed.
The union says the action follows long-standing complaints by workers. These include delayed salary reviews for staff who have worked for more than 11 years, failure to implement agreed Collective Bargaining Agreements, and the exclusion of contract workers from pension benefits.
Kenya Airways asked travelers to check their flight status before going to the airport and to follow official updates for possible changes or rebooking options.
Meanwhile, the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority said it had put measures in place to ensure flight safety and maintain air navigation services as discussions continue to resolve the dispute.
Talks are ongoing as authorities seek a solution to restore normal operations at the country’s main airport.
