Busia Governor Ken Lusaka has been appointed the Western Region coordinator for the Kenya Kwanza coalition’s re-election campaign, in a move seen as part of a broader strategy to strengthen the ruling alliance’s presence in the region ahead of the next general election. The appointment places Governor Lusaka at the centre of Kenya Kwanza’s mobilisation efforts in Western Kenya, a region considered politically competitive and influential in national elections.
As regional coordinator, Lusaka will be tasked with uniting local leaders, harmonising campaign activities, and coordinating grassroots outreach across the counties that form the Western bloc.Sources within the coalition indicate that Lusaka’s political experience and ability to engage leaders across party lines informed his selection.
Having served in both national and county leadership roles, the Busia governor is viewed as a strategic mobiliser with a deep understanding of the region’s political dynamics.
His appointment is expected to boost cohesion within the coalition and strengthen its organisational structures on the ground. In his new role, Lusaka is expected to work closely with governors, members of parliament, members of county assemblies, and party officials to build a united front for Kenya Kwanza.
A key component of his mandate will be to popularise the government’s development agenda, including infrastructure projects, economic empowerment programmes, and initiatives targeting youth, women, and small-scale traders.Speaking after the appointment, Lusaka welcomed the responsibility, describing it as a vote of confidence from the coalition’s leadership.
He emphasised the importance of unity and issue-based politics, noting that sustained development and service delivery remain top priorities for residents of Western Kenya.
He added that his approach would focus on listening to wananchi and addressing their concerns through coordinated political engagement.Political analysts say the appointment signals Kenya Kwanza’s intention to intensify its early preparations for the re-election campaign.
By placing a sitting governor in charge of regional coordination, the coalition aims to strengthen its grassroots networks and ensure consistent messaging across the region. The move also reflects a wider strategy by Kenya Kwanza to deploy experienced leaders in key regions to drive its campaign agenda.
With Lusaka at the helm in Western Kenya, the coalition hopes to rally local leaders, minimise internal divisions, and gradually build momentum in support of President William Ruto’s re-election bid as the campaign season approaches.
