Jubilee Party’s Expulsion of Kioni and Murathe Halted by Court Order

Jeremiah Kioni, the former Member of Parliament for Ndaragwa, has successfully obtained a court order that temporarily suspends his expulsion from the Jubilee Party, where he served as a member and Secretary General. The court order not only affects Kioni but also prevents the expulsion of David Murathe, the Vice Chairperson, and Kagwe Gichohi, the National Treasurer.

This development follows their initial expulsion from the party in February, which was announced by Chairperson Nelson Dzuya. The decision to expel them was based on allegations of laxity and misconduct, and it was made during a Parliamentary Group meeting held in Nakuru.

However, on March 22, 2023, the Political Parties Dispute Tribunal (PPDT) delivered a decision that restored the three individuals to their positions within the party. Despite this ruling, the Jubilee Party later decided to remove them as members on May 10, 2023. The decision to expel Kioni, Murathe, and Gichohi was reached by the party’s Internal Disciplinary Committee and subsequently approved by the National Executive Committee (NEC).

To affirm these changes, the Registrar of Political Parties, Ann Nderitu, sent a letter to Deputy Secretary General Joshua Kutuny, endorsing the actions taken by the faction led by Kanini Kega. However, the recent court order has effectively put a halt to their expulsion, ensuring that Kioni, Murathe, and Gichohi remain members of the Jubilee Party until further legal proceedings.
