IEBC Reacts To Supreme Court Verdict

Independent Electoral And Boundaries Commission (IEBC) issued its statement to express satisfaction of the Supreme Court findings and rulling.

The body was accused with almost all petitions filed by the Azimio candidate including, questioning the standard of the technology deployed, postponement of election on some counties, the nature of the election carried out and irregularities and illegalities experienced in the tallying process were all dismissed without sufficient evidence to support.

The four commissioners Juliana Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Julius Nyang’aya earlier after election and before announcement of the results by Wafula Chebukati, they held a press briefing and refused to take the ownership of the final tally, accusing the chairman of locking them while regarding the results as opaque.

In the statement signed by the four, they have stated to agree with honorable judges of the supreme court as well as their chairperson, Chebukati.

After the Supreme Court made her rulling on 5th September 2022 on the presidential election petition particularly with our regard to our role as commissioners, We wish to convey our appreciation to the court and confirm that we respect their collective decision.

We also state here that we agree with the statement of the chairperson of the commission sent to the media. We wish to reiterate that we stand by the rule of law and statutes that promote effectiveness of the work of the commission. Read the statement.
