Huawei’s Women in Tech Program Empowers Female ICT Leaders in South Africa

Huawei South Africa successfully concluded its 2024 Women in Tech Digital Skills Training Programme, empowering a new generation of female leaders in the information and communications technology (ICT) sector.

The program, which ran from July 31 to August 4, 2024, brought together 30 women from various organizations across South Africa for intensive training in cutting-edge technologies and leadership skills.

The five-day course covered essential topics in the rapidly evolving tech landscape, including cloud computing, 5G networks, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity. Participants also took part in leadership development sessions, focusing on personal branding, effective communication, and strategic thinking.

Huawei’s initiative aims to address the gender gap in the tech industry by equipping women with the skills and confidence needed to excel in ICT roles. The program aligns with South Africa’s broader goals of digital transformation and economic empowerment, particularly for historically disadvantaged groups.

Vanashree Govender, Huawei South Africa’s Media and Communications Manager, emphasized the program’s impact, stating, “By equipping women with advanced digital skills, we’re not just filling jobs – we’re creating future leaders who will drive innovation in South Africa’s tech sector.”

The success of the 2024 program builds on Huawei’s ongoing commitment to fostering diversity in tech. As the digital economy continues to grow, initiatives like this play a crucial role in ensuring that women are well-represented and prepared to lead in the industry.
