Huawei Kenya, Equity Bank Foundation, and the Open University of Kenya have joined hands to open a new ICT Academy in Konza Technopolis, a smart city in Kenya.
This program, launched recently, plans to teach digital skills to over 10,000 students. The courses will be flexible and focus on important technology areas like AI, cloud computing, cybersecurity, networking, and software development.
Students will earn certificates from both Huawei and the Open University of Kenya, helping them get better job opportunities in Kenya’s growing digital economy.
The program also includes a Virtual Innovation Hub where students can work on real-life technology solutions. The Equity Foundation will use this program to improve digital health services, especially in rural areas. At the launch, Huawei Kenya’s CEO Gavin Gao highlighted the goal of building local skills, and Dr. James Mwangi, the Open University Chancellor, talked about making tech skills available to everyone.
This initiative supports Kenya’s Digital Superhighway plan and the government’s efforts to create a tech-based economy and innovation hub in East Africa.
