Homa Bay Deputy Governor Narrowly Escapes Assassination

Homa Bay Deputy Governor Joseph Oyugi Magwanga has narrowly survived a suspected assassination, targeted on him on Sunday night of May 11, 2025.

The county official had his vehicle ambushed near his home in Kabuor Village, Kasipul constituency, around 9 p.m., by unknown individuals. The vehicle was hit several times with live bullets, raising eye brows that Magwanga was the target though he was not in the car at the time.

He had switched vehicles after reportedly receiving intel that he was being followed. Magwanga’s security team, who were riding in the official car, exchanged gunfire with those unidentified assailants to render their mission futile.

Following the outbreak of the news, the police have since launched investigations to bring to limelight the perpetrators of the ill act, and to discover their motive. No injuries were reported.

Homa Bay Deputy governor’s attack has come, a few days after Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were was shot dead in Nairobi, in a fiery cold blood aimed at the late lawmaker.

Were was burried a few days ago, even as the police continue to hunt culprits who committed the crime.
