Google has announced a substantial investment of over $1.5 million (N2.8 billion) to support and drive Al talent development in Nigeria. This funding, part of Google.org’s broader $5.8 million commitment to digital skills programs across Sub-Saharan Africa, will bolster Data Science Nigeria’s collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy to up-skill youth and unemployed Nigerians through Al-driven initiatives.
Dr. Bosun Tijani, the Minister of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy, highlighted that this support will position Nigeria as a leader in Al innovation and create opportunities for Nigerians to thrive in the global digital economy.

Alongside the funding, Google and the Ministry have announced the ten startups selected as beneficiaries of the Al Fund, established by the National Centre for Artificial lntelligence and Robotics (NCAIR) in collaboration with Google. Each startup will receive N100 million in funding and up to $3.5 million in Google Cloud Credits to scale their solutions.
The selected startups, spanning sectors such as healthcare, energy, agriculture, and security, will also gain access to Google’s Al tools, mentorship from AI experts, and networking opportunities with global innovators and partners
